Make Your Bed


We all have those days where we want nothing more than to crawl back into bed, and hide from the world. And most days, we do, especially when our anxiety is running the show.

I love my bed. It’s probably my favorite place in the world. I feel safe and comfortable there, like nothing can touch me. So when I’m not feeling strong, or happy, I just crawl back into bed.

It’s easy for me to do that, because I don’t usually make my bed. The bedding is all over the place, the pillows are placed like I’m going to sleep, so it’s simple for me to just lay back down.

So today’s #AnxietyTipThursday, is to make your bed. When I make my bed, with all the decorative pillows, and my pile of stuffed animals, (yes I have a lot) it’s difficult for me to crawl back into bed. My bed looks pretty, my room looks extra clean, and I have a hard time throwing all my stuff to the side, just so I can┬álay down.

Making your bed does a couple of things for you and your anxiety. One, it makes you feel like you can accomplish anything. Making your bed is a chore, so when you actually do it, you feel good about it. And two, by making your bed, and not crawling back into bed, you’re not letting your anxiety win. You’re standing up, living life and continuing the day, no matter how hard it may be for you.

So next time you want to sleep the day away, make your bed. You’ll thank yourself for it later.
