The very first thing my doctor told me when I found out I was struggling with anxiety, was that I needed to find something to help me relax at the times I was feeling most anxious. She suggested I focus on my hobbies.
The problem was, I didn’t really know what my hobbies were. I came to realize I spent WAY too much time on the computer or my phone, and that was stopping me from finding something to be passionate about.
So when my anxiety came to an all time high this past year, I sat down and tried to figure out what exactly my hobby could be. After hours of thinking, I came to realize I had three main hobbies. They are going for walks, writing stories and reading books. I figured out that walking allows me to both exercise, as well as clear my head from whatever thoughts could be bothering me. Writing allows me to write out what I am feeling, but also create a story that can help distract me from myself. And finally, reading is my way to escape from my world, and enter another one.
And while I still struggle everyday, I’ve come to realize that my doctor is right, hobbies are a great thing to have. Hobbies allow you to focus your attention on something other than your inner thoughts, and sometimes it allows you to forget what was even bothering you in the first place. They give you something to enjoy in life, and they allow you to feel like you’re great at something.
I hope each and every one of you knows what your hobby is and if you don’t, then GO FIND IT! All it takes is some self-discovering and inner thinking, and bam you will find what makes you happy!
Until Next Time!
