Late night anxiety: my LEAST favorite thing about my anxiety struggles. Nighttime is when a majority of my anxiety attacks occur, so I have had a lot of practice with dealing with late night anxiety attacks. It’s a constant struggle for me, so I wanted to share some tips with you guys, with the hope that this can help you handle your late night anxiety if you go through it.
Tip 1: Read a book
I LOVE reading! It helps me to escape from the problems I’m dealing with, and enter a whole new world. I love adventure stories, love stories and anything in-between. Well, everything but horror. Lol. But you can read whatever kind of story you want. And it doesn’t even have to be a book. A lot of the times, I read fan fiction from my favorite TV shows, movies, books, etc. Reading is just my favorite escape away from my world.
Tip 2: Watch TV or Movie
Sometimes all you need is to put your favorite movie into your DVD player and everything magically gets better. I love watching my favorite actors or my favorite movies to help calm me down. Most of the time they’re comedies or Rom-Com’s because I need a good laugh or a good love story to help me feel better. But like the books, you can watch whatever makes you happy. Sometimes all you need is a good laugh or something to take your mind off of whatever is bothering you.
Tip 3: Leave your phone or computer behind
One thing I have noticed about my anxiety, especially at night, is that it comes from being on social media or reading text messages from someone. And while it is very hard for me, I have starting leaving my phone in my room when I go out to the living room, when I am trying to calm down. It is a constant struggle with wanting to look at my phone, but I know that I am better off without looking at the device that is causing most of my problems. I have read that you are supposed to stop looking at electronic devices an hour before bed, and while I know how hard that is for me, I am trying very hard to stop being so dependent on my phone, and I hope that you guys do too!
Tip 4: Do something you love
Fun fact: I came up with the idea for this blog while I was suffering a late night anxiety attack. I wanted to turn my struggles into something positive, and this blog allows me to talk about my feelings as well as maybe being able to help someone out. But you don’t have to make a blog; you can do whatever you want! Write something; do a little dance, maybe some exercise. But whatever it is that you love, just do it! You’ll be surprised at how much doing something productive for yourself can be very relaxing.
These are just my four big tips that I do when I am having late night anxiety attacks! I hope that these can be helpful to you and can maybe shorten the length of your attack tonight!
